Nearly half of the 150 encroachments marked in Dehradun have been removed so far by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). Continuing its drive on Wednesday, the MCD removed encroachments from Gandhi Park, Dispensary Road and Clock Tower areas.
An MCD official said, “We have been conducting anti-encroachment drives regularly. After the recent orders by the district magistrate C Ravishankar and municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey to remove encroachments especially from the drains, 150 encroachments had been marked by us. We started a drive at the start of July and so far about half of the marked encroachments have been removed.” Adding more in this official said, “The target is to remove encroachments from all over the city. After all the encroachments are removed from the city area, we have planned to move to the isolated areas from where complaints of waterlogging regularly reach us. It is due to the encroachments on the drains that waterlogging problem has been exacerbated.” Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “A team with proper equipment has been deployed to remove the encroachment from the city. This is part of our regular work. Clear orders have been issued to remove encroachments and penalise those guilty of encroachment.”
