Releasing a list of 22 major encroachments in Dehradun, Mayor Vinod Chamoli said that he along with the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun board members and officials will physically verify these encroachments. Referring to the sealing of Pacific Hills apartments at Mussoorie diversion, the Mayor expressed concern about the possibility of the builder attempting to influence the authorities in his favour.
Chamoli said that whenever the MCD had acted against encroachments, public representatives and politicians of the ruling party had come forward to thwart such attempts. “Apart from writing to the Chief Minister, I have also written to the Urban Development secretary listing 22 major encroachments including those by Pacific Hills, Max Hospital, Jaswant Modern School, The Club and by various other individuals and organisations. Due to political interference and failure of the authorities to tackle encroachment, the land mafia is thriving and illegal constructions rising,” said the Mayor.
