Max Super Specialty Hospital, a leading healthcare service provider, on Saturday launched the Sleep lab in Dehradun to address several forms of sleep disorders. Introduced under the aegis of Dr Puneet Tyagi, Senior Consultant, Pulmonology, at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun, Sleep lab will provide comprehensive services for various sleep disorders like Insomnia, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Restless leg Syndrome and the like.
The Sleep lab is a first of its kind lab in Uttarakhand which will provide holistic treatment of sleep disorders right from analysing sleep patterns, diagnosis of various sleep disorders and treatment through medicine or sleep therapies, it is learnt.
The Sleep lab will offer means to diagnose sleep disorders at early stages so that right kind of treatment can be provided to patients concerned. The Sleep lab will comprise of a complete diagnostic system and will be equipped with some of the most advanced technologies in the field of sleep medicine like AlICE-5 and Complete Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) system.
Elaborating about sleep disorders, Dr Tyagi said, “lack of sleep not only impacts the overall quality of life and productivity of a person's life but also leads to serious health issues such as increased risk of diabetes, weight gain, high blood pressure and irregular heartbeats among others. If untreated, lack of sleep and snoring could signal a more serious condition such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a condition characterised by the repeated cessation of breathing during sleep.
OSA can potentially lead to heart disease, worsen heart failure and, in rare cases, even trigger heart attacks.”
