Dehradun: The multispecialty Max hospital here has claimed that the its senior orthopedic consultants Dr Ashish Mittal and Dr Himanshu Kochar have completed 200 joint replacement surgeries in Dehradun. These surgeries include the replacement of hip, knee and shoulders.
The changing life style which results in less muscular activities is the main cause of rapid increase in the number of patients suffering from acute joint pains. In India an estimated 7,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries are done every year and experts feel that the figure would show an increase of 25-30 per cent in next five years.
Dr Himanshu Mittal said that earlier one has to visit the metro cities for these kinds of surgeries due to which they had to face many problems. He said that earlier people in cities like Dehradun tended to ignore joint pains as they would have to travel to city like Delhi for the operation but since the surgery is available in the city they are coming forward for treatment and consultations. He said that surgery is the only option in the cases of acute osteoarthritis. Dr Mittal said that there is lot of misconception among general people on the replacement surgeries but the modern technology has made these surgeries very effective and safe. Dr Himanshu Kochar informed that modern joint replacement surgeries are done with the help of computer which increase their precision and success. He disclosed that a new technique JIG is used in knee replacement surgeries nowadays due to which surgery takes less time and involves no loss of blood.
