Many veterans prefer 'hot pursuit' of Pak intruders

The repeated violation of the ceasefire along the Indo-Pakistan international boundaries has received mix response from the veteran defence personnel in the capital city. Couple of veteran defence personnel demanded from the Union Government to solve the issue on priority basis besides, increasing the duration of patrolling along the international boundaries.

On the basis of information from different sources, it’s being now established that there are many terrorists in Pakistan who are living in camps in Pakistan area along the J&K border and have been continuously infiltrating into Indian territories. “It is good that Indian troops are keeping a tight vigilant watch on them and not allowing them to enter, inspite of heavy shelling from the Pakistan side across the border in different sectors in an effort to catch our troops unaware at odd hours and force terrorists in, but security forces should remain alert round the clock to keep a tab on terrorists.’

After expressing concern over the repeated violation of ceasefire along the international borders, Brig (Retd) KG Behl, said that “since it is an exercise to infiltrate terrorists, our troops must chase and kill all those who try to cross over or are seen in indulging in such actions to enter India or are found running back to Pakistan. Only such action will teach Pakistan a lesson and make them stop making efforts for infiltration and unnecessary firing.”

“Of course, our troops must return fire more heavily than Pakistan troops do when they resort to firing. It is learnt that in order to infiltrate at night they are trying to destroy lights which illuminate boundary pillars and our troops have to be more vigilant with some other lights to spot and kill them,” he said, adding that Defence Ministry AK Antony has already stated that troops have been given free hand to chase and kill intruders even if it involves crossing the ceasefire line. This should be rigidly implemented.

Expressing same views, BSF IG (Retd) SS Kothiyal said that although Indian defence forces along with para-military forces have been keeping a tight vigil along the international boundaries, the Union Government should also focus more on renovation, up-gradation and modernisation of communication equipments and should be given to those forces who are deployed along the sensitive areas.

“With the change of time, various hi-tech equipment are available in the free military market and should be given to the defence forces after procuring it,” he said, adding that instead of opening the frontier, the bilateral talks should be initiated at earliest to control the situation along the international boundaries.

Echoing the same feelings, lt Col ( Retd) GS Rawat stressed on the bilateral talks along with the intensifying the patrolling along the international boundaries. He said that all those terrorists, who try to cross the international boundaries should be chased and killed by the Indian defence forces. According to him, violation of ceasefire takes place when the terrorists try to infiltrate into Indian territory.
