The high tension lines spread over the capital continue to play with the lives of residents as seen on Monday when a local was reported to have been electrocuted by an overhead high tension line. As per the information available, Ashish Tiwari, aged about 23 years, was electrocuted at Mohini Road, Dalanwala, in Dehradun on Monday.
After hearing his cries, the passers-by rescued him and immediately took him to the hospital, where is condition is very critical. Tiwari had been unemployed after his tea stall near Kedarnath was destroyed in the last year’s disaster.
He was working in Dehradun to reopen a new tea stall. Following the mishap on Monday, the locals have reiterated that the State power department take effective measures for shifting the live high tension wires from the area.
The high tension lines are a danger in this area where two residents had succumbed to burn injuries and around half-a-dozen residents were also electrocuted in the past while working on terraces of homes.
After expressing his grief over the incident, Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited spokesman, Madhusudan said that the department has been continuously working to shift the high tension wires from the colonies. “After the formation of Uttarakhand, several colonies have come up and builders opted for unauthorised construction despite knowing that high tension lines are hanging above the constructed structures,” he averred, adding that the department has been taking measures to aware the masses not to construct high buildings below the high tension lines.
