PNS

A person who heads a purported social organisation in the Bindal area of Dehradun allegedly barged into the home of a neighbour, dragged their pet dog out of the home and beat it to death in front of the woman and children of the house. The man is reported to have killed the pet dog as it had bitten his pig. The incident took place on February 12 with the police lodging an FIR on Monday evening. Sources said that the police lodged the report after concerned citizens and animal lovers insistently demanded that action be taken as per the law against the dog-killer.

Based on a complaint lodged by Prakashnagar, Bindal area resident dog owner Sunita, a case was lodged in the Cantt police station against the accused Chandra Mohan Kala and others residing in the locality under sections 429/452 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The Cantt police station in charge Rajesh Sah said that the buried body of the pet dog was exhumed and sent for post mortem examination on Monday. The post mortem report did not reveal the cause of death due to the body being in a state of decomposition. However, the case is being investigated, he added.

According to sources, on February 12 the complainant woman was busy with her domestic chores when four men from the locality forcefully entered her  home and dragged the family’s pet dog out of the home. The men then reportedly tied the canine and beat it to death in clear view of the family’s children and the neighbourhood. The four men are also said to have tried to hurt one of the family members trying to rescue the dog.

The inhuman treatment suffered by man’s best friend in full public view has been strongly condemned not only by animal lovers but also by the general public. The brutal killing of a dog could even be considered a secondary issue in this case which involves men trespassing into a woman’s home in a violent and intimidating manner. What is more alarming is that the men dared to barge into a home and kill a pet dog in Dehradun city which was known for its peace and negligible lawlessness, state concerned citizens.
