Newly-elected MlA from Bhagwanpur Assembly constituency and widow of former Cabinet Minister Surendra Rakesh, Mamta Rakesh will take oath as an MlA in Vidhan Sabha on Friday.
She will be administered the oath as a member of the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha by Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal at Vidhan Sabha at 12 pm on Friday.
Notably, hours after her election, she claimed she deserved a berth in the Cabinet. However, Chief Minister Harish Rawat has so far kept his cards close to his chest, leaving Mamta and others guessing.
The vacancy in the Cabinet left by the death of Surendra Rakesh is yet to be filled. “Nobody seems to have an inkling of knowledge of what is on the Chief Minister’s mind. However, there is every possibility that Mamta Rakesh would again stake her claim after the oath is taken unless Rawat sends some positive overtures by then,” said an observer.
