The Haridwar district Malaria officer informed ASHA workers of the women hospital about causes, prevention and cure of dengue.

He asked them to adopt measures to prevent dengue in their respective allocated areas and respond immediately when any suspect arises.

Speaking to this correspondent district malaria officer Gurnam Singh said the larva of dengue mosquito thrives in clean water so one must never allow clean water to accumulate in the surroundings.

“Water in the water cooler in houses should be changed regularly. The ice tray in refrigerator and the tray on the back side must be drained of water.

Old flower pots and tyres accumulated in backyards of the houses should be kept clean and free of water accumulation,” he said. Still if one gets afflicted by dengue one must immediately report to the district hospital, he added.

The isolation ward made in district hospital is specifically for dengue patients where they can come and get their treatment done.

Singh warned that if one catches fever the normal medicines like Paracetamol and Combiflam should be taken only on the advice of the doctor.

Chief medical superintendent Dr Shikha Jangpangi said that caution is a must for prevention of dengue during monsoon season.

One must wear full sleeved clothes and avoid going out in the evening. One should not let the dengue larva proliferate in the surroundings, she added.
