While inaugurating the programme hosted by a member of the municipal council, Neelam Rawat to mark the International Women Day in Pauri on Thursday, the district magistrate Sushil Kumar stressed on the parents bringing up their daughters in the proper manner so as to make them self-dependent.
He said that Beti Bacho Beti Padhao and other girl-specific schemes, including Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana, being executed by the Government are transforming the life of the girls. “The women form the spine of any society and much stress is being given now on their education and health. They can work wonders if they are healthy and educated,” he said.
A number of women, including Kanteshwari Devi, Rita Devi and Kamla Devi, were felicitated on the occasion for their role in different realms while Rajni Devi, Anita Devi, Usha Devi, Sarswati Devi and Asha Devi for their contribution in the field of cleanliness. Cultural programmes were also organised to mark the special day.
