'Maintain log books on duration of outages'

PNS

Acting on the instruction of  the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to provide round the clock power supply to people, secretary Power Radhika Jha categorically asked the department officials to monitor and maintain log books detailing the number and duration of the power outages during a meeting convened on Saturday.

She laid thrust on the  department reviewing the power supply situation daily and also on  the officers’ performance being mentioned in their annual career reports (ACR). She also asked the executive engineers and superintendent engineers to monitor the disruption and restoration works on daily basis and to  ensure that the power outages if they happen are kept to the minimum.

In a first, the power distribution reports to be sent on daily basis has been introduced in the power department. Efforts are afoot too to lay the ground works to ensure that the system works effectively. The initiative is bearing its fruits on the ground as just 241 cases of power disruption have been reported between April and July this year. This indicates a massive improvement in the situation as compared to last year, say the observers.

As per the reports, disruption happened for 9,386 minutes while earlier it was 12,586 minutes in the rural and the urban areas. This resulted in the consumers having got 3200 minutes of power supply more than earlier.

The officials, however, say that although things in the rural areas have seen much improvement they have not yet reached the  desired level. In the rural areas, power disruption related information is being passed manually while in the urban areas, these are not being maintained if the outages last for less than  a quarter of an hour.

They further mentioned that the power distribution division’s rating is being assessed on the new information system. “With the employees competing among  themselves to prove their worth,  the working of the system would automatically improve in the coming days,” said a senior state power department officer.
