A delegation of Mahila Congress headed by its Uttarakhand president Sarita Arya met the Director General of Police Anil Kumar Raturi at the Police Headquarters here on Tuesday. The Mahila Congress delegation submitted a memorandum to the DGP expressing concern at the graph of crimes against women and the rising trend of substance abuse in the State.
The Mahila Congress delegation requested that effective measures be taken to put a stop to the actions of anti-social elements in the state. It is also a matter of concern that cases of crimes against women are also on the rise in Uttarakhand. The delegation also said that women should be provided protection against domestic violence faced by women of weaker sections and children as considerable time is consumed in investigation of crimes against women. There is also considerable delay in completion of inquiry of documentation sent to the women and child development programme officer, the delegation stated.
Arya said that the prevalence of substance abuse among the youth in provisional state capital Dehradun has been on the rise which needs to be controlled. The Mahila Congress delegation expressed hope that under the able administration of DGP Raturi, the state police will bring about an improvement in the law and order situation of Uttarakhand.
