In the light of the recent events, Dehradun based student activist group, Making A Difference By Being the Difference (MAD) has launched a campaign against the ordinance brought in by the State Government regarding slums. As a part of the campaign, MAD members talked to the citizens of Doon to make them aware of the situation and garner their support to make the Government take a genuine approach towards the environment and the city as a whole. “Through this campaign MAD wants to remind the Government that the slums aren't the only major vote bank.
They are neglecting another important section-- the youth of the city who will not tolerate the petty games being played by the political parties,” the group stated.
According to group member Mohit Arora, "We had earlier implored the Governor Krishan Kant Paul to not give his assent on the ordinance. It seems that everyone in the government has turned a blind eye towards this issue hoping it will magically disappear on its own. What they are not considering, is a scenario where a natural calamity becomes the cause of a major tragedy.
Who will bear the responsibility for the damage thenIJ Or perhaps they will then resort to the age-old blame game."
Uttarakhand government has recently passed an ordinance that grants a period of three years to formulate a strategy to help with the rehabilitation of the slum-dwellers of Dehradun. MAD members Satvik Nijhon, Vaibhav, Asmita, Arushi, Shardul Aswal among others were present in the activity.
