The State sports and youth welfare Minister Arvind Pandey announced while addressing a press conference here on Monday that Uttarakhand Cricket Consensus Committee (UCCC) has been formed some 18 years after Uttarakhand was formed. He said that the day would go down in the history of cricket of the State as a historic one as the players from the State would no longer be compelled to go to other States to practise and play cricket.
Notably, the Supreme Court of India had appointed a committee comprising the interim president of the administration of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vinod Rai and a former Indian test cricketer Diana Edulji. The claimant associations of the state have meanwhile agreed that until their respective claims are verified by BCCI following a detailed scrutiny, the cricketers from the state should not be deprived of an opportunity to play in the domestic session 2018-2019. They have further agreed that in the meantime the cricketing activities in Uttarakhand would be carried out under the supervision and control of UCCC.
Pandey said that there would be nine members of the committee. “Two nominees would be there from BCCI, including one having considerable experiences in the realm of cricket administration. Besides, there would be a nominee from the Government of Uttarakhand on account of the fact that both the international stadiums in Uttarakhand are under the ownership of the State Government. There would be two nominees from Uttaranchal Cricket Association, two nominees from Cricket Association of Uttarakhand, one nominee from United Cricket Association and one nominee from Uttarakhand Cricket Association.
They are to be selected by the associations themselves from among the members of the registered governing bodies/managing committees,” the minister said.
While expressing happiness over the development, Pandey said that from now onwards, the cricket players from the state would practise and play the tournaments on their home grounds. “Besides, Uttarakhand is also eligible to conduct various tournaments in the State while giving facilities and service to the players,” he added.
