Irked at the failure of authorities to trace the whereabouts of Sachin lakheda who went missing more than 10 days ago, locals blocked the highway at Nagni on Wednesday. Sub-divisional magistrate Dr Abhishek Tripathi reached the protest site and after a couple of hours the protesters relented on being assured that the suspects would be arrested.
On Wednesday noon, a number of villagers reached Kataldikhal from where they took out a rally till Upli Nagni where they also staged a demonstration. The protestors blocked the highway accusing the police of lackadaisical attitude in investigating the disappearance of lakheda. Tripathi reached the protest site where he was surrounded by protesters.
They complained that the authorities had not been able to make any headway in the case even after more than 10 days have passed since Sachin's disappearance. Family members of lakheda demanded information about his whereabouts and arrest of the suspects without delay. The SDM assured the protesters that he would himself visit the case-area and direct necessary action.
The protesters cleared the highway on this assurance after blocking traffic for more than two hours. Kataldi village resident Sachin lakheda had gone to Patudi village for a marriage function when he had gone missing on November 28.
The police had initially lodged a missing person case but following protest by villagers the case was lodged as a kidnapping case. The police then sent a forensic team to the village to find a clue about Sachin's disappearance but no progress has been achieved in this case yet.
