Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated places across the State on October 13-14. Following this spell of rainfall, temperature -both maximum and minimum-would start dipping. The process would start after October 15, the Met officials said. The rains might prove the harbinger of the winter, they added.
The winter session in the Uttarakhand starts normally from the last week of November or the first week of December, said Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre director Bikram Singh on Friday.
He added that following south easterly winds advancing towards Uttarakhand from Bay of Bengal, Uttarakhand would receive light to moderate rainfall at isolated in places- both in the plains and the mountainous areas- for two days starting from October 13.
The State is yet to feel the nip in the air as both the maximum and minimum temperatures are hovering one to two notches above normal. While the normal temperature in the second week of October hovers between 29°C and 18°C, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 31.9°C and 18.9°C respectively in Dehradun on Friday, said the Met director. “However, things might change for the better with the rain spells that might span two or more days. The dip in mercury might give people a hint of the approaching winter,” he said.
The forecast for Dehradun on Saturday is mainly clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32°C and 19°C respectively in the city on Saturday. The forecast for Uttarakhand on Saturday is dry, he added.
