light rainfall, snow in higher reaches of Uttarakhand

PNS

light rainfall with snow was reported from the higher reaches of Uttarakhand on Thursday.

Dehradun witnessed cloudy sky since the morning with the maximum temperature plunging by five to six notches down on Thursday as compared to Wednesday. Minimum temperatures at several areas in the higher reaches were recorded sub-zero on the day.

The Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast very light to light rain/snow at higher reaches (above 2,500 metres) in four districts- Uttarakshi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh- on Friday too. Snowfall is likely to occur at places with an altitude of 2,500 metres and more.

The maximum temperature has dipped by around six notches in the higher reaches across the State under the impact of the rainy/snowy spell.

The Met director Bikram Singh has attributed this to a fresh bout of western disturbances that have formed over the State and its neighbouring areas.  Things would be a tad colder in the coming two days as the gap between the maximum and minimum temperature is likely to narrow down, Singh said.

Dehradun witnessed cloudy sky while drizzling was reported at noon from most of the areas.

The weather forecast for Dehradun on Friday is clear to partly cloudy sky. Thunder cloud development/light rain is likely to occur at many places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be hovering around 21ºC and 9 ºC respectively in Dehradun on Friday.

Singh further informed that the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 18.9ºC and 9.4ºC in Dehradun while it was 12.0ºC and 3.8ºC in Tehri, 13.8ºC and 0.8ºC in Mukteshwar and 24.9ºC and 6.1ºC in Pantnagar on Thursday.

He said rain accompanied with snowfall has been recorded in the higher reaches of the four above-mentioned districts on Thursday.

The weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Saturday is very light to light rain/snow at many places in Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts, Singh said.
