Students of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and Polytechnic from Dehradun along with a social activist group met district social welfare officer Jeet Singh Rawat on Friday. The students alleged that they have not been provided with the full amount of scholarship from the year 2017. They had received a small amount of scholarship money only once which is gainst the rules.
Shubham, a student who passed out of ITI said, “We qualified for the scholarship in the year 2017 however no sum was received by us. We were recently credited with a sum of Rs 2,300 per semester which was supposed to be about Rs 16,000 per semester. We have completed our college but as the fee of the institute has not been paid we are unable to get our degrees.”
As per the officials Rs2,300 which was credited to the students with a cut is due to the recent Government Order (GO) received by the department in 2019. However, the students stated that the GO received is very recent but the scholarship which has pending for the past two years should be given to the students.
Representative of the social activist group Navkranti Morcha said, “We have given the memorandum to the officials stating our demands. The pending scholarship for students is important as many of them come from a deprived background and are unable to pay the fee. Necessary steps by the officials should be taken in
this regard.”
