A leopardess stuck in a gin trap was rescued from the forests of Ramnagar and taken to the rescue centre at Ranibagh. The forest department staff also apprehended an accused of laying the trap in the forest.
According to officials, the female leopard aged about two years, was injured in the trap and was sent for treatment and rehabilitation. The trapped big cat was not tranquilised but a net was used to immobilise and transfer her into a cage for transportation to the rescue centre.
While animal activists have appreciated the action of the department, they have also pointed out that the department came to know about the trap only because the feline was trapped in it.
