The former vice-chancellor of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU) and scientist and professor of Indian Institute of Science S P Singh participated in a lecture series held at Doon University on Friday.

Addressing the students during the session, S P Singh said, “There are several scientists across the world who have left their deep marks in the realm of science even though they had no formal degree. The contribution of these scientists is monumental. They have enriched civilisation.”

He, further, said that no scientist undertakes study to win awards. “It is done for the welfare of science and society,” he said, adding that everybody should inculcate scientific temper and thinking.

Emphasising on the need and importance of research, Singh said, “The tradition of research should be encouraged in the Indian universities. This is the only way to develop scientific culture and tradition in the society.”
