The State Government seems to have found a few takers of its popular laptops distribution scheme in which it wants to arm the MBBS and engineering students of the weaker sections of the society particularly the SC category ones with these modern gadgets, but no candidate has so far been identified to cover under this scheme from five hill districts of the State.

Though the eligible candidate identification process is on, the State Government has so far not found any candidate to

cover under this scheme from five hill districts of Uttarakhand including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar and Champawat.

However, only 2,248 eligible candidates have so far been identified from rest of the districts, as the officials concerned of the Social welfare Department informed. The department has been assigned the task of providing laptops to the aforesaid category students of the society.

However, out of 2,248 students who have been identified under the aforesaid scheme, as many as 150 students belong to Pauri, followed by Tehari with 24, Dehradun with 563, Haridwar with 828, Nainital with 103, Almora with 148, Pithoragarh with 50 and Udham Singh Nagar with 382.

As the officials concerned informed, an amount of Rs9 crore has been sanctioned for purchasing the laptops.

In the meanwhile, keeping in view no selection of eligible candidates under this laptops distribution scheme, the Bageshwar district administration has also appealed to the eligible students to forward their names to avail this scheme.

Since no engineering or medical college exists in Bageshwar as such presently, therefore those eligible students from Bageshwar who are doing medical or engineering courses from colleges in other districts of State, may apply for laptops to the office of the district social welfare department,  Bageshwar, said N S Gasyal, District Social Welfare Officer  Bageshwar.

To avail this schemes the eligible candidates who are presently doing medical or engineering studies from other districts of the State, must also be permanent residents of Bageshwar district, added Gasyal.
