land mafia ruling the roost in city

If the data provided by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) are believed there are around 373 such cases in which the land mafia has carved out plots and have also raised illegal structures on many of them in the State capital. Significantly, most of these illegal plotting has been done on the agricultural lands, which is the restricted area for any construction work. Although officials claimed that they keep a tab on it but in reality it seems they do a tab to make money out of illegal plotting.

The illegal structures can be spotted majorly on agricultural land at Mussoorie Road, Mohkampur, Badripur, Sahastradhara Road, Shimla bypass, Mothrowala, Kargi and many other places. MDDA which is responsible to tighten the noose of such illegal offenders in the State capital has demolished mere 17 illegal plots till date and no action has been taken on the remaining illegal plots.

Shockingly, construction work has also been started on many of these illegal plots and MDDA official still seems to be in their sluggish mood as they have not even planned to take any action against them.  Sources of MDDA revealed that out of the total 373 illegal plots only two plots have been sealed by the MDDA officials till date. When asked about the preventive measures being adopted the MDDA officials to curb this nuisance, a source of MDDA revealed that we keep conducting checking drive and also demolish the illegal plots.

Meanwhile, the officials of MDDA regularly keep registering such cases and also take action against them, added. He said that many cases are under jurisdiction and we can take action against them only after the final hearing. He mentioned that demolition can only be done after all the legal proceedings related to the land are cleared. He informed that MDDA officials keep demarking the land and actions are also being taken against such illegal plotting.

MDDA officials also keep spreading awareness regarding this through various means like through advertisement and through its websites. People are told to follow the specified norms required for construction on any particular land.
