Residents of Premnagar’s wing number one have alleged that the District administration and cantonment board have remained apathetic to land encroachment in the area.
A vacant plot of government land near the Dussehra ground in the area is being encroached upon by some elements and the locals had written to the district magistrate complaining about the encroachment months ago but no action has been taken yet.
The locals complain that a plot of government land near the Dussehra ground had been lying vacant for years but in the recent past, some dubious elements have been trying to encroach upon it.
The residents of wing number one had complained to the DM and cantonment board CEO earlier in March this year but eight months later, no action has been taken by the authorities with the complaint being transferred among various departments.
One resident of this area of Premnagar said, “We had written to the DM and the cantonment board CEO in March. In a letter dated July 15, 2014 from the office of the cantonment board CEO, it was stated that there is no documentation related to the land in question in the cantonment board office. Now, those trying to encroach on this plot of land are also laid a foundation here and due to absence of land documentation with the cantonment board, this action is not being viewed as an unauthorised construction. This plot of land was being used by senior citizens to lounge and by the youngsters to play in addition to being used for holding community events,” said the resident.
It is pertinent to mention here that at a time when the chief minister Harish Rawat is also laying stress on prevent land encroachment and unauthorised constructions, the Government authorities appear to be failing to prevent these anomalies even in the State capital.
