Uttarakhand Police will not act directly on land encroachment cases and complaints will have to be made at the department first. Departments like Public Works Department, Gram Sabha, Municipal Council, Municipal Corporation, Forest department, Irrigation, Cantonment board and other departments are being illegally encroached by the land mafia or anti-social elements.
If police receive such information from any persons or witness such encroachment while patrolling at their assigned area, they will first have to inform the department officers concerned. Police will act in case the department officers concerned seek help for the same.
State Director General of Police BS Sidhu has issued a circular to the district police heads not to act directly in cases of alleged encroachment of government lands by the land mafias or any individual. Rather, they should inform the department officer concerned about such encroachments. According to him, Police should act in case the department officers concerned seek help for the same, he added.
