'lack of skill, shortage of equipment to deal forest fire a cause of worry'

PNS

DGP MA Ganapathy sounded worried over lack of the required skill among the police forces and shortage of equipment, meant to deal with the forest fire that gutted a large swathe of the jungles in the State early this year. “We are deeply worried with the fire accidents occurring in increasing number every year, wreaking havoc with natural resources that State is endowed with,” he said.

“It is the need of the hour that we focus on improving infrastructure and enhancing the policemen’s skill through training. Funds being needed for the works we need to do, I would approach the State Government,” the State’s top cop said.

Speaking of the horror the forest fire triggers, he said that things assume such terrible proportions, particularly in the mountains, that it turn difficult to douse it and stop it from spreading. “Even the central agencies, sent on the task, are not proving effective. This is why we need to revamp infrastructure here to deal with things in the right fashion,” he said while stressing that the forces must be equipped with the required instruments after being trained rightly.
