Khanduri tweets fiasco: FIR against unknown persons

PNS

Police lodged an FIR against unknown persons for tweeting from a handle in the name of Garhwal MP and former Chief Minister Major General (retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri on Sunday. According to a police officer, MP’s daughter and Yamkeshwar MlA Ritu Khanduri had submitted a complaint to police, based on which the FIR was lodged.

A series of six tweets from an unverified Twitter handle in the name of BC Khanduri had created a stir in the political circles with the rivals of the BJP citing the tweets as a sign of purported disappointment among senior party leaders.

The tweets in Hindi, which were later deleted, referred to pain and disappointment due to Khanduri’s dream for Uttarakhand not being achieved. The tweets also referred to respect from the public, which was stated to be there irrespective of whether or not it was accorded by the party to Khanduri. However, the MP himself outrightly rejected having made any such tweets, adding he did not recall having a Twitter account.

The BJP leadership in Uttarakhand, including the party’s State chief Ajay Bhatt, came out in defence of Khanduri, rejecting the probability of the MP making such tweets. On Sunday, Ritu Khanduri registered a complaint at the Nehru Colony police station stating that someone had set up a Twitter handle impersonating her father and Garhwal MP to make controversial statements aimed at defaming him.
