'Kashmir row a part of int'l conspiracy'

PNS

There is need for studying the Indo-Tibetan and Nepal border areas in Uttarakhand and keeping an eye on the neighbouring nation. The Jammu-Kashmir Study Centre director Arun Kumar said this while speaking at a talk on border area problems organised in the border area of Dharchula in Pithoragarh district.

Expressing his views at the talk organised by Dev Bhoomi Vichar Manch, Kumar said that the Kashmir problem has been created as part of an international conspiracy.

He said an erroneous picture of Jammu and Kashmir is being projected to the international community. Nationalism has been present in Jammu and Kashmir since the pre-independence era which is still the case as there is no insurgency in most of the 22 districts of the State with violent altercations and terrorism being reported only from five districts.

It is wrong to consider the activities in these five districts to be a representation of the entire State, he added. A consistent public awareness campaign is being undertaken in the region to facilitate redressal of the problem.

“Pakistan was allowed to occupy a part of Kashmir in 1947 during accession of the State to India. This is the cause of problems being experienced at present in five districts of Kashmir. The United Nations had also stated Pakistan’s occupation of a part of Kashmir to be illegal while asking the nation to withdraw its army from the occupied area. However, Pakistan has not agreed to this so far.

By assisting in the imperial conspiracy to give a portion of Kashmir to Pakistan, India is now facing disputes in the border areas. In a period of 20 years, there has been little migration or sale of land by the natives in most districts of J&K,” he said.

Kumar said that the nation’s borders can be secured only if the general public in such regions cooperates with the army. Seeking information about the Ind0-Tibetan and Nepal border in Uttarakhand, he stressed on the need for studying this border region and keeping an eye on the activities of the neighbouring nation. Those attending the talk here expressed strong support for making Jauljivi the inner line for border security.

The demand for stopping the consistent incursions since removal of the inner line from the border area was also raised in the discussion. Apart from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh office bearers and concerned citizens, media persons from Nepal were also present in the talk.
