Dehradun police have arrested a person Joni Kumar, native of Shamli (Uttar Pradesh), on charge of murdering a local brick supplier Om Prakash from Patelnagar area.In course of interrogation, the accused confessed his crime. According to Joni, he killed Om Prakash because he was not paying him Rs 12 lakh for the bricks he had bought from him.Om Prakash used to purchase bricks from Joni’s various brick kilns at Shamli. He supplied them to the local residents.
Initially, Om Prakash cleared payments on time, the accused said. However, payment turned erratic later and the sum reached Rs 12 lakh.Despite repeated request, Om Prakash was not clearing the due, the accused said during interrogation.Joni further said that along with his cousin Sunil alias Kala, he had hatched a plan to kill Om Prakash. They had reached Dehradun on June 27 and lifted the businessman after drugging him in his cold drink. His cousin and he murdered him and dumped the body in his native village, Shamli.
Earlier, Daya Verma, daughter of Om Prakash, had registered a report in Patelnagar police station, stating her father had been missing since June 29. A case under section 365 of IPC was registered against unidentified person in Patelnagar police station the same day. In course of investigation, it was revealed that Joni had met Om Prakash last time on GMS Road.DIG/SSP Pushpak Jyoti formed several teams headed by inspector Pankaj Kumar Gairola to crack the case. A team headed by inspector Pankaj Gairola raided various places in Ghaziabad, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar to nab the accused.
Acting on a tip- off, the team arrested Joni from Shimla bypass on Sunday evening. Police recovered the body from Shamli and sent it for postmortem. Teams have been formed to nab other accused of the case. Police recovered a stolen car and a motorbike from his possession. Two sections 302/201 of IPC have been added in the lodged FIR in the police station against the accused.
