Join hands to build world's highest statue of Sardar Patel: BJP

Rajendra S Markuna

The State BJP has called upon the people cutting across their ideologies to join hands to build the world’s highest — 182 metre high memorial — statue of unity in Gujarat in memory of the first Deputy Prime Minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

This is the dream project of Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, says senior BJP leader and convener of this statue of unity programme in Uttarakhand, Bachi Singh Rawat. Under this programme we have to set up committees at block level across the State by November 15.

Subsequently in next phase of this programme we have to collect about 250 gram soil and about one kg iron used in farming from every village of Uttarakhand to contribute to the manufacturing of this proposed world’s highest statue of unity, Rawat further informed during his kumaon visit here on Wednesday. More importantly, apart from collecting soil and iron from every village, a photograph of the gram pradhan of every village with detail information about the same village will also be collected. And all materials including soil, iron pieces and photographs of every gram pradhan with detail information about these villages will be sent to Gujarat, he added. In the meanwhile, to mark the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel rallies will also be organsied across the  country on December15.

Besides, rallies and awareness programmes will also be held in different parts of the State and people from different spheres of life will be involved in these programmes, the senior BJP leader further said. When asked if the BJP is taking political mileage by taking name of the first Deputy Prime Minister of the country, Rawat maintains that it is the Congress that is trying to politicise this matter.

Sardar Patel’s contribution to the nation building is immense and the BJP is only trying to honour this great leader. That is why our party has appealed to all the people cutting across their party affiliations to join hands to build this statue of unity, he added.
