The recent recruitment of 2,794 teachers in the primary schools of Uttarakhand has not only brought cheers among their family members but also has brought interesting socio economic effects in the society of the hill State.
The stretched bachelorhood of many selected candidates is slated to end soon as nuptial bells would be ringing for them. The banks and insurance companies are also sensing business opportunities in the newly recruited lot.
The education department after removal of legal hurdles in the recruitment process selected 1,410 and 1,384 primary teachers for Garhwal division and Kumaon division respectively. Though the department has sent most of these candidates to the schools located in the inaccessible areas but this is not hindering these candidates to revel in the new found status in the society.
The job of primary teacher in the Government school brings in the much needed financial security in the families of most of the candidates.
One such newly recruited teacher Amit Kashyap told this correspondent that scores of newly recruited unmarried teachers would soon get married. He said that since most of these teachers were employed in lowly paid teaching jobs in private schools, the parents were finding it hard to get them married. Kashyap who recently joined a school located in Jaiharikhal block of Pauri district informed that the parents of these bachelors are now flooded with marriage proposals.
The parents of many unmarried female candidates are relieved that apart from getting a good bridegroom their daughters would be married now with little or no dowry. Kavita (name changed) said that the dream of her parents to get her married in a well off family would be realized now with her getting job of a Government teacher.
The agents of insurance companies and post office agents have also started visiting the houses of these newly recruited teachers in the hope of getting some business.
With so many benefits it is little wonder that many left out candidates are still hoping to the job as the state government has decided to add 389 more posts in the recruitment drive.
