The Director General (DG) of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Srikrishna Choudhary inaugurated a hostel for students in the ITBP Seema Dwar campus here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the personnel of the ITBP are working under most hostile environmental conditions. Giving an example of such conditions he said that in high altitude areas the ITBP personnel have to melt snow for drinking water. He said that the personnel of the force are deployed at an altitude ranging from 9000 feet to 18500 feet. Choudhary said that a plan to construct composite buildings in such areas is on anvil. These buildings have a central heating system and the pipes of water are placed underground to prevent them from bursting due to freezing of water. He said that the in areas of heavy snowfall the oil in the engines of the vehicles freeze due to which many problems are faced in transportation. Further the cost of transportation in such areas is more and to minimize these problems the government has decided to induct ultramodern vehicles resistant from these problems into the force. The DG disclosed that the government has also agreed to provide two helicopters to the force for smooth movement in areas of tough terrain.

He said that the force has opened its first public school in Delhi. This school is running in self finance mode for the benefit of the children of the personnel. Chaudhary said that the ITBP is also planning to make some amendments in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Kendriya Vidhyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to make these schools more useful for the force.

The ceremony was also attended by the Inspector General Northern frontier H S Goraya, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) headquarters Sanjay Singh, DIG Satpal Singh, Sanjeev Raina and others.
