Acting on the directives of the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat Tehseel Diwas was observed at the behest of the district administration on Tuesday during which anomalies regarding stamp papers were detected. The District Magistrate Deepak Rawat inspected various departments and went to the stamp paper vendors too to see for himself whether they were available or not. DM asked for a stamp paper from a vendor who initially refused to give him one, saying that there was none left in the stock. However, DM found one as he opened the drawer the vendor used. Following this, the area was searched and a fairly large stock of stamp papers was found. It was further found that the stock register contained no entry of such stamp papers. A visibly upset DM vented his annoyance with the vendors suppressing stock of stamp papers to fleece the buyers. A probe was ordered too.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Rawat said, “The stock register of the stamp paper vendor has been seized and I have asked SDM to give me a report. Based on that, we would take action against the errant vendor.” DM further said, “Each day, the vendor is supposed to make a note on the register as to how many stamp papers he has sold and the number still left in his stock. These days, the school admission process on, the demand for stamp papers worth Rs 10 is high. When the daily register of sale is not being maintained we apprehend that the vendor was selling them at higher prices. Things need to be thoroughly checked,” he added.
