Not amused by the State Government’s decision to appoint 347 primary teachers from the waiting list of last recruitment drive, the federation of unemployed Bachelor of Education (B.Ed)/ Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) qualified candidates has threatened to intensify its agitation if a new recruitment drive on 6,200 posts of primary teachers is not initiated soon.
The Additional Chief secretary, S Raju has asked the education department to recruit candidates in 347 posts of primary teachers from the waiting list.
The department had conducted recruitment drive on 2,794 posts of Primary teachers last year in which some of the candidates had not joined their duties after repeated reminders. In the meantime, the matter went to the court and the process of appointment in these vacant posts was stalled.
However, the federation of B Ed/ TET candidates which is on a warpath on the issue of appointment of
primary teachers in the government schools termed
the Government’s decision as too little.
The President of the federation, Manvir Rawat told The Pioneer that the State Government should start process of recruitment is all the vacant posts of the primary teachers. He said that the state Chief Minister Harish Rawat had recently announced that 500 primary schools in the state would be developed as model schools.
“There should be at least five teachers in every model school which creates a vacancy of 2,500 teachers in these schools. Further if the department counts all the vacant posts and takes into consideration the posts which would be vacated after the promotions than a figure of more than 6,200 posts comes out. Considering the fact that thousands of B Ed qualified youths would be rendered not eligible for being employed in primary teacher cadre after March 31 this year, we want that the state Government should start
the recruitment immediately,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the federation organised a ‘Yagya’ at the State education directorate on Tuesday for good sense to prevail on the department. The federation had earlier planned a sit in before the residence of education minister but later changed their plan on hearing about bad health of the minister’s wife.
More than 25,000 B Ed/ TET qualified youths in the State waiting for the new recruitment drive as the two year reprieve provided to state by NCTE to appoint B Ed qualified youths in the primary schools is ending on March 31, 2016. The NCTE in its order has propounded that only Diploma in Elementary Education (D El Ed) qualified candidates are qualified to teach in the Primary schools.
