Radha Raturi, the principal secretary in charge of the State women empowerment and child development, told the representatives of Raj lakshmi self- help group which is now managing the Indira Amma cheap canteen that the canteen can be better managed while inspecting it on Monday. Expansion is on and the senior citizens must be kept in mind while making the seating arrangements, Raturi said. She sounded happy over the cleanliness of the canteen.
She said that the state government’s effort has been proving successful with the canteen having drawn around 38000 people till September 30 since it was inaugurated on August 15.
She further said that MDDA has been instructed to explore the possibilities of starting such canteens in other parts of the city. “Other self- help groups will be engaged and these would throw new avenues of employment. The common people would at the same time get nutritious food with prices easy on their wallets,” she said.
Alok Pandey, chief development officer, Dehradun accompanied Raturi during the inspection.
