India diverting water away from Pak just another jumla-Rawat

The statement by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari about diverting the water of three rivers to Indian States instead of allowing it to flow into Pakistan is just a political jumla in view of the elections, said Congress leader Harish Rawat. He questioned where this plan would stand if China- where these rivers originate- decides to divert the water of these very rivers.

Interacting with the media Rawat said, “As our party leadership has already clarified, when it comes to fighting against terrorism and enemy nations, we stand united with the Government.

However, the recent statement made by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari about diverting the flow of three rivers to deprive Pakistan of water is more of an electoral jumla. The rivers being talked about, like the Satluj and Chenab originate in Chinese territory. What if China decides to diver the waters of these rivers away from India? Even the Brahmaputra originates in China. What if China decides to divert the water of this river away from India?”

Opining about Gadkari’s statement, the former CM of Uttarakhand said, “Earlier, it was mainly the BJP president Amit Shah and PM Narendra Modi who were known for such jumlas but with the elections approaching near, even Gadkari has started resorting to such dialogues.”
