Impasse continues over absconding BJP MlA

PNS

Stand-off continued on the second day of the budget session in the Assembly over absconding BJP MlA Rajkumar Thukral, who was allegedly framed due to political vendetta.

Although leader of House Harish Rawat had assured the House that by Thursday evening or Friday morning, they (BJP) would get reason to be happy, but that moment did not come on Friday. Realising technical hitches in the case, Chief Minister Rawat did not come to the House, so leader of opposition Ajay Bhatt warned the treasury bench if they fail to fulfill the commitment, they would not allow the House to run smoothly.

Meanwhile, BJP legislators came into the well of the House and MlA Ganesh Joshi tried to jump over the Speaker's chair by scaling over the table of Assembly's reporter. Marshals, who were still enjoying the warmth after shaking hands with CM Rawat on Thursday, had to struggle hard to keep them (opposition) away from Speaker's chair. On Thursday, as the House re-assembled then Bhatt raised the issue of BJP MlA Thukral, who was being treated as a notorious criminal despite being innocent.

Seeing this CM Rawat had convened a meeting with called leader of opposition Ajay Bhatt and BJP state president Tirath Singh Rawat into the Speaker's chamber for discussion and later assured the House that something concrete would happen either by Thursday late evening or Friday morning. He had also assured that we have found three solutions of this problem and one of the solution will be found by evening. Elated CM Rawat categorically said that next morning would be fresh for him (MlA Thukral). Following the assurance Opposition had called off their protest and participated in the day proceedings. Bhatt alleged that the MlA was framed and demanded immediate withdrawal of the case as "the honour and dignity of a member of the House was at stake".

Meanwhile, BJP MlAs jumped into the well of the House claiming such assurances in the past were also given by the treasury bench but nothing happened so far. Even CM Rawat has back tracked his assurance within 24 hours. As BJP members refused to budge, the Speaker adjourned the house till 11:45 am at 11.05 am. later extended the adjournments twice i.e. upto 12.20 pm then extended up to 1 pm and later extended till 3pm because opposition had squatted at the entrance of the house. Sources said on Thursday to find out solution CM Rawat had convened separate meeting with police and legal department but could not reach on conclusive end.
