Adding many firsts to its agendas, the newly-formed executive body of Indian Medical Association, Haridwar chapter, has conceptualised the formation of grievance redress cell through which the complainant and the doctor can mutually settle the issues through a mediator who specialises in the field. This would save time in following court procedures and other legalities of both the parties. Adopting a girls’ school or college for check-up and treatment is also on the agenda for the coming year, keeping in view the highest maternal mortality rate in the district. This was announced by the newly elected office bearers at the installation ceremony of IMA on Monday.
“If you have a problem with the doctor come to us,” says this grievance redressal cell of IMA. Deliberating on the functionalities of the cell, secretary IMA Haridwar, Dr Himanshu Tyagi said, “We wish to decrease the ambiguities existing between the patient and the doctor. If the patient has any complaint they can come to us for the redressal.”
Besides, a regular medical bulletin will be initiated by IMA with special information on common age-old problems from bone and heart specialists, said the joint secretary Dr Manpreet Brar.
The outgoing president of IMA Dr A K Jain handed over his charge and medallion to the new president Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh who has been three times secretary to IMA in previous years.
In his presidential address, Dr Dinesh said, “IMA Haridwar has been adjudged as the best branch of the state for the year 2015-16 and the well-known orthopaedic surgeon of Haridwar Dr A K Jain as the best president during his tenure. With such a dedicated team, we wish to accomplish our agendas in this New Year. 48 new members have been added in the past three years making a total of 138.” Regarding adoption of a girl school, Dinesh said, “In conjunction with the Pradhanmantri Surakshit Matritva Yojana, IMA shall adopt a girls’ educational institution and a Gynaecologist shall be visiting the premises for regular medical check- ups and treatment advice.”
