On the call given by Indian Medical Association (IMA), the private clinics of the State remain closed on Tuesday. The OPD services of more than 1200 private clinics remain affected on as doctors retorted to pen down strike from 11 am to 4 pm on the day. The emergency services however remained unaffected.
Addressing newsmen at IMA office here, the senior Vice President of Dehradun chapter of IMA, Dr Rekha Srivastava said that the proposed criminal prosecution for cases of medical negligence and clerical errors and constitution of National Medical Council (NMC) in place of Medical Council of India (MCI) is not acceptable to the doctors.
She said that IMA demands capping of compensation under consumer protection act, amendments to abolish license Raj and exemption of single doctor clinics in the Clinical Establishment Act. The association also wants an amendment in the Indian Medical Council Act and punitive punishments only for sex selective abortion and not for clerical errors under the PC- PNDT act.
The doctors claimed that all the thirty state branches and 1765 local branches of IMA participated in the agitation.
More than 150 doctors from the state participated in the mass protest at Indira Gandhi International Stadium in New Delhi on the day.
