There is a perceptible increase in number of dacoity cases in Dehradun and Haridwar districts and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of both these districts should effectively control the situation, said the Inspector General (IG) Police Garhwal Range, Sanjay Gunjyal while presiding over a range level crime meeting here on Sunday.
The IG gave orders to the police officers concerned to solve the cases of loot and ensure 100 percent recovery. Emphasizing the need of effective action on the cases of vehicle theft/ loot he said that such crimes spawn the incidences of murder, theft, chain snatching and kidnapping. Gunjyal warned against lack of proper advocacy in the districts for the registered cases under gangster act. He said that a police officer of the level of additional superintendent of police would be appointed as nodal officer in the districts for these cases who would give a monthly progress report to the police headquarters.
The IG Garhwal range said that agitators particularly those scaling the overhead water tank should be dealt strictly with filing of cases and arrests. He said that the unlawful incidences like celebratory firing on the occasions like marriage are being reported in the districts of Haridwar and Dehradun and they should be stopped. Gujyal was of the view that prompt action by cyber cells should be taken against the groups administrators from where messages inciting communal tensions go viral on whatsApp. He said that the police officers adopt a very negative stand on the cases involving online frauds and economic offences and directed the officers to file cases in such incidents and coordinate with Special Task Force (STF) for solving such cases.
Gunjyal said that the Uttarakhand police provided regular information about Char Dham Yatra routes and weather updates in the mobile numbers of pilgrims this year which benefitted 818855 pilgrims on the Yatra route till October 17 this year. He said that a detailed feedback on the discrepancies noticed in the police preparation in the Yatra this year should be sent to his office.
In view of the ensuing Panchayat elections in Haridwar the IG range asked the SSP Haridwar to monitor the sensitive and ultra-sentive booths and inform his office.
The meeting was attended by SSP Dehradun, Sadanand Date, SSP Haridwar Senthil A Krishnaraj, Superintendent of Police (SP) Chamoli S K Meena, SP Pauri Rajiv Swarup, SP Tehri Barinderjeet Singh, SP Uttarakashi Anant Shankar Takwale, SP Rudraprayag Prahlad Narayan Meena and other range level officers.
