The name of a woman Bharatiya Janata Party leader has come up in course of the interrogation of the couple Gurpreet Kaur and Savinder Singh which was arrested in connection with the Rs 60 crore kitty scam. The special investigation team (SIT)- formed to probe the case- is now grilling the couple to make them reveal the names of others who are involved in the matter. It is learnt that besides the woman BJP leader, the couple has revealed the name of a manager of a hotel who is behind the kitty group’s operation. Sources privy to the SIT informed that the duo as revealed by the couple is now on its radar. On Monday, the couple was produced in the court.
With complaints still pouring in at Kankhal and Ranipur police stations, the investigating team is engaged in finding out where the couple has invested such a huge amount, collected through the investment of the members. Things are still murky as both Gurpreet Kaur and Savinder Singh have denied possessing the kitty amount. They have named a few persons, including some big businessmen based in the city, saying that they have invested the amount somewhere. Besides, the couple is learnt to have informed the probe team about how the kitty group used to operate as the kitty parties were held every week.
The investigation officer in the case Kotwali in-charge Chandrabhan Singh said while talking to The Pioneer on Monday that the investigation is on and many important clues have been gathered from the couple.
Sources further said that the crux of the mystery is that while the property being in the possession of the couple is not worth more than Rs 40 lakh it had invested Rs five crore in GIG Mall. In view of this, SIT has decided to write to the Enforcement Directorate for evaluation of the mall in a bid to send it on auction.
As per the SIT sources, the couple had purchased two plot of lands in Misserpur and Kankhal. This aside, the couple has revealed to have taken a loan of Rs 15 lakh from Muthoot Finance after gold was mortgaged. SIT is now weighing options of sending the mall on auction following the order from ED or moving court.
The head of SIT Prakash Arya said that those who have lodged complaints against the kitty operators, alleging misappropriation of their money, are unable to produce receipts of the money they claimed to have invested. “The amounts due to them would be calculated only on the basis of the receipts deposited in the police stations,” he added.
