Huge rush of commuters was witnessed in the buses of State transport corporation on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Thursday. The State Government had announced a free ride for the women on the auspicious festival of brother and sisters on the day due which all the buses plying on intra-state routes witnessed a big rush. The buses bound for Kotdwar, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Tehri and some of the hill destinations plied overloaded with passengers from Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) and Hill depot of Dehradun. On the interstate routes like Delhi the commuters faced problems as less number of buses was available on the day. One of a Delhi bound passenger at ISBT said that very few buses are available on otherwise busy Delhi route. “ I am waiting for quite some time for a bus to Delhi but today it appears the state roadways has diverted the buses on other routes,’’ he said.  The Assistant General Manager (AGM) of state Roadways, Prateek Jain however negated less frequency of buses on Delhi route. He said that buses were available on this route like normal days and claimed that less number of passengers travelled on this route on the day. Jain said that there was big rush of passengers on the routes within the state as large number of women travelled to tie rakhi on the wrists of their brothers. He said that additional buses were deployed on Rishikesh and Haridwar routes. With surge of passengers the roadways pressed five buses each on these routes.
