The outgoing Uttarakhand DGP Satyavrat said that he was unable to ensure effective action against the land mafias in the State due to shortage of time and involvement of political and bureaucratic executives from top to bottom in the sale and purchase of lands in the State. “Some months ago I had initiated action against such elements but I could not achieve much. I hope my successor would act against land mafia in the State,” said Satyavrat who retired on Monday. In one’s year tenure as DGP, Satyavrat said he tried his best to put right person at right place in the public interest.

He further said that to deal with land related offences or any other revenue related disputes, economic offense wing comprising trained officers should be set up in the State. He expressed satisfaction at his one’s year tenure as DGP and said that he succeed in implementing his vision in the police department in public interest.

He thanked police officers and personnel for implementing his direction for public interest in the area of their respective jurisdiction. He advised the police officers to work as per the law. He denied there was any political pressure on his day to day workings during his one year tenure.

However he admitted, “There were some differences regarding promotion and appointment of police officers with the Government but I tried my best to put the right person at right place. One can’t say that State faces law and order problems because of a couple of incidents. I laid emphasis on strengthening investigation which I observed police lacking in and got several workshops on investigation conducted at district headquarters,” he said while adding that the police had conducted scientific investigation in some cases in the State.

Satyavrat said, “I want to clarify that I never tried to extend my service period though some well-wishers may have tried without my knowledge. I am personally against extension of service in any department.” A 1976 batch IPS officer, Satyavrat had taken charge as the State DGP on September 30, 2012.
