The HNB Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNB UMEU) has initiated the process of refund of fees of candidates who had applied for the Uttarakhand Pre-Medical/Dental Test (UPMT).

The refund of fees is necessitated in the wake of recent Supreme Court (SC) decision in which it ordered cancellation of premedical entrance examinations conducted by the States and private medical colleges. The highest court in its order had made clear that admissions in all Government and private medical colleges in the country would be based on one common entrance examination, National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET). The court had ordered that the All India Premedical Test (AIPMT) would be NEET I and a second examination NEET II would be organised on July 24.

Since the entrance examination of state the UPMT was scheduled earlier and the candidates had applied for it the state government ordered the university to initiate the process of refund of fees. A total of 12248 candidates had applied for the examination which was cancelled. The university had charged fees of `2,000 from candidates of general category while a fee of `1,400 was levied on candidates of reserved categories.

The registrar of the HNB,UMEU, Vijay Juyal said that the work on the software designed for fees refund is almost complete. He said that the amount would be refunded by NEFT and it would be ensured that the whole process is error free.
