The HNB Uttarakhand Medical Education University has submitted a proposal to the State Government to set up a new combined campus for the university, a 750-bed associated hospital for Government Doon Medical College, office of director medical education and offices of all councils in Dehradun. The vice-chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof Hem Chandra said that though the idea is in the formative stage setting up of a combined campus would ensure that the requirements of next 50 years are fulfilled.

He further said that at least 25 acre of land is required for the purpose and it is for the Government to scout for the land. The VC said that the erstwhile Doon Hospital which is now acting as associated hospital of GDMC is suffering from space constraints and considering the fact that the college would be upgraded in future, it is imperative that a new 750- bed hospital is set up.

The VC said that the university would soon start Ph.D courses in various disciplines of medical education and nursing. A separate research section would be set up in the university for the purpose, he said.

Informing about his tenure which started on September 6, 2018, Prof Hem Chandra said that he had taken the decision to shift the university campus from  the previous location to the GDMC campus.

He said that he has constituted a core group consisting of him, director medical education, principals of all four Government medical colleges and representatives of the Governor and the Government for smooth functioning of the university.

The VC further said that the university has decided to start online evaluation of answer sheets and centralised theory paper evaluation. He added that a two-year diploma course in hospital administration would start in the university from July this year.
