Members of Akhil Bharatiya Janwadi Mahila Simiti protested at Collectorate on Tuesday, demanding a high-level inquiry into the death of two inmates at Nari Niketan.
They slammed the State Government for its alleged efforts to stonewall an impartial probe into crisis haunting the shelter home for the distressed women. They said around dozen inmates staying in Nari Niketan having died in the last three years, there must be a high-level probe to detect the reasons and to fix responsibility of those running the home.
The members said the State government is trying its best to conceal the reality. They threatened to intensify their protest unless the State government conducts the high- level inquiry as being demanded by them.
The members assembled at Collectorate and started shouting slogans against the State government. They said the alleged rape of a physically challenged inmate of the home and the abortion of her fetus is a horrid crime that has sent shock waves across the State. They also demanded the inmates being provided with basic facilities and proper security to stop the recurrence of such incidents now happening in the home. Among others present on the occasion were Indu Naudiyal, Jyoti Thakur and N Ansari.
