Rattled by local outburst of dengue in Patharibagh area, the district health department is concentrating all its energy and resources in the locality. In this area forty patients of dengue were reported by the district health authorities.
Two teams of district health department are camping in the area to keep an eye on the outbreak. On Tuesday a health camp was organised by the health department in which the medical examination of large number of people was done. On the day a team of doctors from Mahant Indiresh hospital here also organised a health camp in the area. In both these camps samples of 104 suspected patients were taken for confirmation. However on a positive side no new case of the disease was reported by the district health authorities on Tuesday.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr YS Thapliyal told The Pioneer that teams headed by Dr Mandal Bonal, Dr SS Kandari and District Vector Borne diseases officer, JP Bhauguna are conducting door to door surveys in Patharibagh and surrounding areas. An intensive fogging in the area is also being conducted.
He informed that the concentration of the disease in a particular area is due to a phenomenon called ‘Tran Ovarian Transmission’. In this the eggs of the dengue infected female of previous season get hatched in large numbers on attainment of favorable conditions.
These eggs though laid in last season had developed a cyst around themselves and they undergo a phase of dormancy to ward off non favorable phase. All the mosquitoes which get hatched from this way are infected with the dengue virus and since their concentration is more in a particular area local outbreak of the disease is reported. Dr Thapliyal claimed that the department has sufficient stock of ElISA kits and medicines.
