Faced with regular criticism on the drug procurement policy, the health department is now planning to bring some amendments in the policy.

Top officials of the department told the Health Minister Surendra Singh Negi during a review meeting at Vidhan Sabha auditorium on Wednesday that department is working on the process of making the drug procurement simple.

Negi held detailed discussions on the availability of medicine and purchase policy. In the meeting the process of tender for drugs was explained to the minister. The officials told the minister that delay in release of budget from centre government causes problems in purchase of medicines.

Negi asked the officials to spend the budget on time and release the Utilisation Certificate (UC) to the State and union Government as soon as the budget is spent.

The minister asked the officials to ensure that the screening and surgical camps of the department are held regularly in all parts of the State.

The Minister was informed that the requisition for recruitment of BDS doctors would be sent to the medical services recruitment board on March 8.

The Principal Secretary health, Om Prakash said that union government has released the budget for construction of National Heart Centre at Almora.

The meeting was also attended by secretary health Dr Bhupendra Kaur Olakh, Additional secretary health, Niraj Kherwal, Director General (DG) health, Dr Kusum Narriyal and others.
