Harit BHEl Abhiyan kicked off in Gandhi Park on Sunday morning with plantation of trees of different varieties by the officials of BHEl and their wives. This park was made last year by the Maharatna company in the heart of the city close the city hub area Ranipur Mod as part of its corporate social responsibility on Gandhi Jayanti. Gandhi Park provides some respite especially to the nature lovers and morning walkers by providing fresh air to the city residents.

The ideal of cleanliness given by Mahatma Gandhi has seen a real transformation in the form of Gandhi Udyan which once had become site of garbage dumping ground. On world environment day, the executive director of BHEl Sanjay Gulati had pledged that tree plantation for conservation of environment would not be a one day affair, rather a continuous programme. Keeping up his commitment, he planted tree in the park along with his wife Rashmi Gulati. An array of Ficus, Palm and Chandni plants commonly known as garden white and pin wheel flowers was planted by other officers of BHEl.

Speaking to The Pioneer, executive director of BHEl HEEP unit, Sanjay Gulati said, “Swachta pakhwara by the Central Government is going on and as part of the cleanliness drive, we planted trees on Sunday. Two months ago on world environment day, I had pledged that planting of trees on the specific day is good but it has to be continuous process to make our surroundings clean and green. All festivals must be linked with tree plantation. It is the best start to pay back to the mother earth what she has been bestowing on us for times immemorial.” His wife, Rashmi Gulati said that trees are life and being a lover of plants she always looked for opportunity to plant trees wherever possible. Deputy commandant CISF Sohail Rafat and assistant commandant P K Tiwari also planted the saplings and pledged to nurture the plants to grow into trees for the benefit of city residents.
