Dengue cases are now being increasingly detected in the district. Till date, 80 such cases have been detected from across the district out of which 21 have come out positive. District Malaria Officer (DMO) Dr Gurnam Singh has put the district on high alert.  However, no case of death has been recorded so far. The administration is alert with  several deaths being reported in 2013 in the district due to the  vector-borne disease.

As per the official data, 80 cases have been found positive in initial rounds of test done by the instant rapid kit. DMO informed The Pioneer on Friday that high alert has been sounded across the district and all the medical officers cum in-charges (MOIc) along  with the physicians  working  in the major private hospitals across the district have been reporting to DMO on daily basis. Round the clock  monitoring is being  done in the vulnerable areas, he said while assuring that things  are under control.

It may be mentioned that aside from the government hospitals, there are about a dozen private hospitals where the treatment of Dengue is being provided. Dr Singh said that  the report coming positive through rapid kit does not   mean that the person is really afflicted with Dengue. “In such  cases, the family members should not get panicky.  The patient is kept under sharp vigil till the second round of test by ElISA method is done.

The report of the second test coming positive, the  patient is considered as infected by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti (vector of Dengue). The patient then  is immediately referred to state capital for further treatment,” he said, adding that all Dengue cases do not require hospitalisation.
