The regional meteorological centre has forecast hail/squall in some parts of Uttarakhand for 24 hours from the afternoon or evening of November 3. Besides, it might snow at places with the height of 3500 meter and above during the period. Dehradun too might experience rain or thundershower on Saturday evening, something which might make the mercury dip and bring the feel of winter which is still elusive for the people residing in the city.
The Met department said that the expected rainfall might help make for the huge rain deficit in the state, post-monsoon, following the near normal monsoon rain. As per the forecast, rain/hail/squall is likely to lash some isolated places in districts like Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh for the 24 hours starting from afternoon/evening of Saturday. Besides, the high-altitude places in these districts might record snowfall during the period, the weather officers said. A yellow watch warning has been issued by the department on the likelihood of hail/squall at isolated places in the above-mentioned districts.
The regional meteorological centre has forecast mainly partly to generally cloudy sky for Dehradun on Saturday with possibility of rain/thundershower during the evening. Notably, the eagerly awaited winter is still eluding Dehradun with the mercury not plummeting enough to bring in the winter chill. The minimum temperature hovering in the neighbourhood of 12 to 13 degree Celsius, the real winter is yet to set in.
“It has been a long time since it rained here. We are impatiently waiting for the pre-winter rain which might prove harbinger of the long-awaited chill normal to winter,” said a resident of the city.
The Met officers, however, said that the people might have to wait till the second week of November to feel the winter chill unless there are some rains in the interim.
